<p>The rain has held back<br>for days and days, <br>my God, in my arid heart. </p>



<p>The horizon is fiercely naked-not the thin-nest cover of a soft cloud,&nbsp;<br>not the vaguest hint of a distant cool shower.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Send thy angry storm, <br>dark with death,<br>&nbsp;if it is thy wish, <br>and with lashes&nbsp;of lightning startle the sky from end to end.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>But call back, my lord,&nbsp;<br>call back this pervading silent heat,&nbsp;<br>still and keen and cruel,&nbsp;<br>burning the heart with dire despair.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Let the cloud of grace&nbsp;bend low <br>from above like the&nbsp;tearful look of the mother&nbsp;<br>on the day of the father&#8217;s wrath.&nbsp;</p>

<p>दिन पर दिन बीतते गए &nbsp;हा! मेरे प्राण बहुत तरसे हैं<br>जाने कब से सूखे उर में हे प्रभु मेघ नहीं बरसे हैं।</p>



<p>क्रुद्ध अनावृत्त तप्त क्षितिज है दर्शित कहीं न रंच जलद है <br>दूर-दूर तक भी शीतल वर्षा के ध्वनित न होते पद हैं&nbsp;<br>स्पष्ट न इंगित वर्षागम का जलद नहीं निकले घर से हैं-<br>दिन पर दिन बीतते गए &nbsp;हा! मेरे प्राण बहुत तरसे हैं।&nbsp;</p>



<p>भेजो अपना क्रुद्ध प्रभंजन असित मृत्यु सा झंझावाती<br>यदि यह तेरी इच्छा ही है तो मारुत में जो उत्पाती&nbsp;<br>तड़ित ताड़ना से नभ कम्पित कोण चकित चपला कर से हैं-<br>दिन पर दिन बीतते गए &nbsp;हा! मेरे प्राण बहुत तरसे हैं।&nbsp;</p>



<p>किन्तु बुला लो नाथ बुला लो स्थायी मौन ताप प्राणेश्वर<br>स्थिर निर्मम नैराश्य अनल उर गृह है दहन हेतु नित तत्पर<br>भस्मीभूत कर रहे मेरा हृदय निठुर आतप खर-से हैं-<br>दिन पर दिन बीतते गए &nbsp;हा! मेरे प्राण बहुत तरसे हैं।&nbsp;</p>



<p>पंकिल कृपा जलद झुकने दो नीचे झुकी घटा ललिता हो&nbsp;<br>किसी लाडले बालक पर ज्यों बहुत क्रुद्ध हो गया पिता हो&nbsp;<br>तब सुत को निहार जननी के जल से नयन गए भर-से हैं-<br>दिन पर दिन बीतते गए &nbsp;हा! मेरे प्राण बहुत तरसे हैं।</p>

<p>I thought that my voyage had come to its end<br />
at the last limit of my power, &#8211;<br />
that the path before me was closed,<br />
that provisions were exhausted and the time<br />
come to take shelter in a silent obscurity.</p>
<p>But I find that thy will knows no end in me.<br />
And when old words die out<br />
on the tongue, new melodies break forth<br />
from the heart; and where the old tracks<br />
are lost, new country is revealed<br />
with its wonders.</p>

अस्पष्ट रहस्यावृति मौन के आँचल में<br />
पर तेरी अभिलाषा का कोई भी न अंत<br />
होने वाला है मुझमें यह पाता पल में।</p>
<p>जब जिह्वा पर प्राचीन शब्द मर जाते हैं<br />
नव छन्द हृदय से मेरे पड़ते फूट-फूट<br />

<p>जड़ से मिट जाय दैन्य उर का निज बल दो कर अपने सम्मुख<br />
मैं नाथ सहजता से झेलूँ अपने जीवन के सब सुख-दुख-<br />
दो शक्ति हमारी प्रीति फलवती हो सेवा सरि बीच बही॥</p>
<p>दो शक्ति न दीनों को सुदूर मैं नाथ पराया कह फेकूँ<br />
या धृष्टों के बल के सम्मुख स्वामी अपना घुटना टेकूँ-<br />
बल दो मेरा उन्नत माथा हो विनत तुच्छता बीच नहीं॥</p>

यह देश अपूर्व, अद्भुत क्षमताओं का आगार है। यहाँ जो है, कहीं नहीं है, किन्तु यहाँ जो होता दिख रहा है वह भी कहीं नहीं है। इस देश की अनिर्वच प्रज्ञा और अद्वितीय पौरुष को विस्मरण ने आकंठ आवृत कर लिया है। अपनी क्षमता को न पहचान सकने से हमारा विषद वैभव नीर कायरता की काई से ढंक गया है। अपने पौरुष का विस्मरण ही सम्राट को भिखारी बनाकर रख छोड़ा है। इसी उद्वेलन से भरा हुआ गुरुदेव रवीन्द्रनाथ का हृदय फूट पड़ा है। कहे तो किससे? जगन्नियंता से ही अपने हृदय की कसक निवेदित करता हुआ वह इसके भाग्य विधाता से पुनः इस देश को अपने विस्मृत गौरव को प्राप्त करने और अभय की पीठिका पर खड़ा कर देने की प्रार्थना कर रहा है। यह गीत संवेदनशील कवि के कलेजे की गहरी टीस है जो शाश्वत और सार्वभौम लग रही है। गुरुदेव की विशिष्ट कृति गीतांजलि के कई <a href="https://blog.ramyantar.com/2013/03/geetanjali34.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">गीतों का भावानुवाद</a> यहाँ क्रमशः प्रकाशित है। इसी क्रम में एक और गीत Let my country awake का हिन्दी भावानुवाद। </div>

बोला, &#8220;प्रभु ने ही किया कैद स्वामी ही हैं बन्धन कारण।</p>
<p>सोचा धन से बल से कर सकता मैं परास्त सबको जग में<br />
मैं नृपति कोष में धन पर धन संचित कर बढ़ता था मग में<br />
सो गया स्वामी शैया पर ही जब हुआ अधिक निद्रा चारण-<br />
बोला, प्रभु ने ही किया कैद स्वामी ही हैं बन्धन कारण॥1॥</p>
<p>जब जगा अरे निज कोषालय में ही मैं हाय हुआ बन्दी&#8221;<br />
पूछा, &#8220;बन्दी किसने रच डाला यह बन्धन अभेद्य छन्दी?&#8221;<br />
बोला कैदी, &#8220;हूँ ध्यानपूर्ण विरचता श्रृंखलायें क्षण-क्षण-<br />
बोला, प्रभु ने ही किया कैद स्वामी ही हैं बन्धन कारण॥2॥</p>
<p>जग को वश में कर लेगा सोचा अहा अपरिमित बल मेरा<br />
फिर मैं अबाध स्वातंत्र्य भूमि में सदा लगाऊँगा फेरा<br />
बस अनल निर्मम प्रहरण से नित्य बढ़ाता रहा चरण-<br />
बोला, प्रभु ने ही किया कैद स्वामी ही हैं बन्धन कारण॥3॥</p>
<p>अन्ततः कार्य जब हुआ पूर्ण थीं पूर्ण शृंखलायें विरची<br />
प्रत्येक कड़ी गढ़ पूर्ण किया,एक भी अधूरी नहीं बची<br />
तब पाया ’पंकिल’ बँधा उसी से स्वयं किया जिसका सर्जन&#8221;-<br />
बोला, प्रभु ने ही किया कैद स्वामी ही हैं बन्धन कारण॥4॥</p>

I try to break them.<br />
Freedom is all I want, but to hope for it I feel ashamed.</p>
<p>I am certain that priceless wealth is in thee, and<br />
that thou art my best friend, but I have not the<br />
heart to sweep away the tinsel that fills my room.</p>
<p>The shroud that covers me is a shroud of dust and<br />
death; I hate it, yet hug it in love.</p>
<p>My debts are large, my failures great, my<br />
shame secret and heavy; yet when I<br />
come to ask for my good, I quake in<br />
fear lest my prayer be granted.</p>

पर उनके भंजन प्रयास में होता पीड़ित मन॥</p>
<p>जो चाहूँ कर लूँ स्वतंत्रता मुझको सब संभव<br />
किन्तु आस में उसके होता लज्जा का अनुभव,<br />
संभावना मुक्ति की सबपर कृत स्वीकृत बन्धन-<br />
पर उनके भंजन प्रयास में होता पीड़ित मन॥</p>
<p>हमें पूर्ण विश्वास अमोलक तुम हो वैभव खान<br />
तुम्हीं हो मेरे प्रिय, सर्वोत्तम सुहृद महान,<br />
मेरे उर में भरे तुच्छ पर कृत्रिम अलंकरण-<br />
पर उनके भंजन प्रयास में होता पीड़ित मन॥</p>
<p>तुम हो वैभव कोष क्या नहीं तुममें प्राणाधार<br />
हृदय भाव सागर में मेरे पर न उठा यह ज्वार,<br />
दूर बुहार करूँ कृत्रिम वसु जिससे भरा सदन-<br />
पर उनके भंजन प्रयास में होता पीड़ित मन॥</p>
<p>वह अम्बर जिससे आवृत है मेरा तन नश्वर<br />
कोई अपर वसन न अरे, वह धूलि मृत्यु चादर,<br />
उससे घृणा न छोड़ा फिर भी उसका आलिंगन-<br />
पर उनके भंजन प्रयास में होता पीड़ित मन॥</p>
<p>बड़ी हमारी असफलतायें मैं ऋणग्रस्त महान<br />
गुप्त महत् लज्जा का मेरे ऊपर तना वितान<br />
अपने सारे अवगुण गण का कितना करूँ कथन-<br />
पर उनके भंजन प्रयास में होता पीड़ित मन॥</p>
<p>जब जब सम्मुख ले अपनी कल्याण कामना भाव<br />
आता तो भय से जाते हैं काँप हमार पाँव,<br />
कहीं अस्वीकृत हों न हमारे ’पंकिल’ विनय वचन-<br />
पर उनके भंजन प्रयास में होता पीड़ित मन ॥</p>
